About Department :

The Civil Engineering Undergraduate Program was established in the year 1984 along with the inception of the college and it has continually been recognized by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since 2001. The Postgraduate Program in Master’s in Structural Engineering was established in the year 2011. The Department has specialized faculties in all the important disciplines of Civil Engineering viz. Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering and Management, Remote Sensing and GIS, Hydrology and Water Resources.

The Department offers consultancy projects for various private and government bodies worth 3 to 5 Lakhs annually in various disciplines. Our Department is a Recognized Research Centre of Anna University, Chennai for pursuing Ph.D. program. It has equipped with special laboratories for advanced research like Bitumen Research Laboratory, AICTE funded Geosynthetics Laboratory, and AICTE funded Dynamic/Seismic Testing facilities with a Data acquisition system. Further, it has its strong acquaintance and MoUs with major Industry supported laboratories/facilities like Advanced Construction Practices, Vland’s Best Hub Private Limited, Building Information Modelling, Bentley FutureFit Laboratory, Geospatial Cloud Mapping & modeling and UltraTech Cement supported Construction Practices Laboratory are engaging the students for Skill development / Employability / Startups / Innovation.

Department operates Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring station of Dindigul Corporation along with Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board with social responsibility. It has an exclusive workstation center enabled 100 systems to offer Bentley Academic Classroom facility and all leading software packages like STAAD Pro, CAMP, AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop, REVIT, and GT Strudl. It has an Academic record of above 100 University ranks was achieved and provides periodical special coaching for GATE and Government examinations.

Department has a consistent record of placing our students in various sectors of Central and State Government - National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, Central Water Commission, Port Trust, Engineers India Limited, Central Leather Research Institute, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, Public Works Department (Central and State), Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, Pollution Control Board, and Rural and District bodies. Department is actively having a relationship as an organizational life member with various professional bodies - Indian Concrete Institute, Institute of Engineers India, Builders Association of India and Dindigul Society for Disaster Management.

The department offers various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to the Civil Engineering students for enhancing the industry required skills through Seminars, In-plant training, Short-term course, value- Added courses, Industrial Visits and Internships in major industries. The department has various clubs and societies for the betterment of the students in thrust areas of national importance. ADAPT Club for skill developments, ENTRE Club for students’ entrepreneurial activities, INNOV Club for students’ creativity and innovation development and STARTUP-CE Club for kindling students’ Startup skills. Society for Scholarship & Competitive Examinations improves the opportunity for our Civil Engineering students eligible for various National and State scholarship and competitive examinations, to improve the mental ability and intelligent quotient and to provide them an awareness about such sources of higher education and skill development.
