An effective method of switching activity reduction in multiplexer using canonic signed digit

The field of the invention relates to the digital signal processing (dsp) integrated circuits. The high degree of multiplier's integration in dsp integrated circuits consume more power and dissipates the power in the form of heat energy, it affects the reliability of the integrated circuits. Power budget plays an important role when the integrated circuits are fabricated. Power could be estimated at the design verification phase of integrated circuits which is observed at early power estimation in fpga (field programmable gate array) verification. Most of the dsp applications are aimed to implement in fpga for fast implementation and design flexibility. Unconventional data representation of csd (canonic signed digit) proves that sufficient reduction of switching activities; improves the power budget at high-level multiplier integration in dsp integrated circuit. Gate level sam and cam are implemented in cyclone II fpga and cadence rtl compiler in the different word sizes such as 4, 8, 16 and 32 bit. Accurate power dissipation in physical implementation is calculated by using power play power analyzer in intel quatrus tool and cadence rtl compiler using 180 nm cell libraries.
